JEANNE ST. JAMES is an erotic romance author who loves an Alpha male (or two). She is happily owned by farting French bulldogs. She writes M/F, M/M, and M/M/F ménages.
Jeanne took some time out of her very busy writing and publishing schedule (she has several new releases planned for 2017) to give us some insight into her talent.
Jeanne, what is your current work’s title and genre?
I write contemporary erotic romance. I have two works in progress… Made Maleen (a modern twist on a fairy tale) to be released 4/15 in a multi-author box set. I’m also working on book 3 in my Dare Ménage Series, Dare to be Three.
What did you edit out of Made Maleen
Nothing yet! I’m not done writing it. But I usually don’t cut out anything major from my story.
What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
I enjoy writing the male POV. I have four m/m and m/m/f books available, so I’m used to it. I like trying to get in a man’s head.
Do you read your book reviews and if so, how do you deal with bad or good ones?
Sometimes I do, I try not to. I recently had a 5 star review written on my first book ever written (from 2009) and I came across it by accident. It actually really touched me as the reviewer said she thought it was one of the most underrated books on Amazon. I was deeply appreciative. As for bad ones, I try to take what the reviewer says as a learning experience for my future books, but some bad ones are just plain cruel. You have to have a tough skin.
Who are the real people upon whom you base your characters?
I don’t base my characters on real people. I write characters who I’d like to hang out with in real life. I did write one of my friends into a book, but just for fun since he’s a drummer in a band and I used his real name and his band’s name. That book, Daring Proposal releases on 1/3/17.
How do you select the names of your characters?
I try to pick original names, but I toss names around in my head and just finally pick one. Nothing scientific! LOL. When I come across a name I really like because it’s different, I just jot it down in a spreadsheet.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
I write series now, but I want each book in my series to be able to stand alone. The only trilogy I have that you have to read in order is my Rip Cord series. It’s three novellas you need to read in order.
What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Erica Lyn’s Wicked Games. I’m enjoying it thoroughly. She’s a fellow Loose Id author and her writing style is like mine. I’m also reading J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
I have a couple unpublished books that will never see the light of day. And I have quite a few books started and put in a folder to be written in the future.
When you’re not writing, what’s your ‘day’ job?
I work full-time in access control (security) for a large government organization. I WISH I could write full-time!
